Public transport
Public transport is the backbone of the city. The role of public transport in making mobility in cities and regions more sustainable is largely known. Offering people an alternative to private vehicles, public transport significantly reduces traffic congestion, air pollution and road injuries.
POLIS work on public transport
Making public transport more attractive, more efficient and more sustainable is a top sustainable mobility priority for cities and regions. POLIS supports its members towards this objective by facilitating the exchange of best practices, especially within the Working Group on Access, and by favouring their participation in innovative research projects on public transport.
On public transport matters POLIS cooperates with UITP, the international association representing public transport stakeholders. This cooperation results in a regular exchange of information, collaboration in project initiatives and policy coordination. In November 2024, the Access Working Group brought back the Public Transport Lab webinar series.
