The MOBILITYAWARDS finalists have been revealed!

The finalists for the prestigious MOBILITYAWARDS have been announced! Among the six outstanding contenders, all recognised for their excellence in sustainable urban mobility and innovative mobility management, is our committed POLIS member, Bologna.

The finalists for the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK (EMW) and MOBILITYACTION awards have been announced, and Bologna is among them! These prestigious awards recognise outstanding initiatives in sustainable urban mobility and mobility management, celebrating activities implemented in 2024. The year’s theme, 'shared public space', underscores the importance of creating inclusive and accessible urban environments.

All eyes on the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award 2024!

The EMW Award recognises municipalities that excel in promoting sustainable urban mobility during the campaign's key week, from 16 to 22 September each year. It is the European Commission (EC)’s flagship campaign on sustainable urban mobility.

Our bold member Bologna is a finalist this year for the award, recognised for its commitment to making sustainable mobility concepts and activities more accessible to the public. During the EMW, Bologna hosted a range of information stands and educational activities focused on sustainable urban mobility and the transformation of public spaces. Local private organisations and citizen-led groups played a key role in organising the events, fostering strong community involvement. A standout initiative was Bologna 30, which saw 70% of the city’s roads converted into 30 km/h zones.

The other two finalists are Braga and Leipzig. Braga focused on empowering politicians and urban mobility experts to drive change, while Leipzig held an impressive car-free day, closing off the inner-city ring road for 12 hours to host activities that engaged around 25,000 participants.

Exploring the MOBILITYACTION Award 2024

The MOBILITYACTION Award recognises outstanding mobility management planning solutions submitted by businesses, institutions, civil society organisations, citizen initiatives, or municipalities. The nominees for this year's award are:

  • Associació Amics de Ca la Cileta del Palau d'Anglesola  for promoting an inclusive approach to street space during the EMW, highlighting the harmony between people of all ages and abilities.
  • Bucharest-Ilfov Public Transport Intercommunity Development Association for transforming Gheorghe Duca Boulevard into a temporary exhibition space, turning a busy city thoroughfare into an interactive cultural hub that blends historical and modern mobility themes.
  • Pěšky městem for its promotion of active mobility through a nationwide campaign, engaging 501 schools across 338 Czech cities and encouraging children and parents to walk to school during the EMW.
