3iBS

3iBS (the Intelligent, Innovative, Integrated Bus Systems) was a project focused on stimulating coordinated research on urban Bus Systems, developing an exploitation platform & strategies for innovations supporting bus stakeholders, promoting exchanges of knowledge between worldwide experts and dissemination about and capitalisation on results and solutions of successful Bus Systems' projects.

woman going in busBased on the EBSF results and innovations as well as on previous and ongoing research projects and activities, 3iBS raised the image of the bus in the urban environment. 3iBS developed bus-system research, exploited and implemented key solutions and promoted the dissemination and exchange of knowledge on a global scale.

3iBS project achieved these objectives through:

  1. The development of a Roadmap for European Advanced Bus Systems research that will support the European and National institutions to develop efficient answers to present and future citizens' mobility needs.
  2. The definition of a work plan for the exploitation of Advanced Bus Systems research results, is to move from research (use of funding to build new ideas) to innovation (implementation of new ideas into the business).
  3. The identification, dissemination and transfer of most innovative concepts and solutions for Advanced Bus Systems to a wider audience in European cities and regions as well as outside Europe.

The main objective remained the positive strengthening of the EU bus industry’s position outside Europe, achievable through adapting our support to their specific needs. Such strategy reinforced their competitiveness and created a virtuous circle to stimulate the integration of the previous pioneering results in Public Transport bus systems.

The project was funded by the European Commission's Directorate General for Mobility and Transport through the FP7 Programme.
