WEBINARS

The return of the bus: BRTs and BHLS to power mobility network in Catalonia and Barcelona

This webinar will explore the resurgence of buses as a key mode in Europe’s urban mobility, with cities increasingly adopting electric buses and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems. Buses are now viewed as flexible, sustainable, affordable, and socially accepted by decision-makers and users alike.

Josep Mension, Director of Bus Central Services at TMB, will share Barcelona’s experience in transforming its bus network, including its work on the eBRT2030 project. Cristina Pou Fonollà, Head of Public Road Transport for Catalonia, will present the Expres.cat network and plans for new high-speed bus express lines to enhance regional connectivity and sustainability.

Level up Public Transport for healthier & more sustainable cities in Europe with UPPER tools and resources

The UPPER project (Unleashing the potential of public transport in Europe) supports 10 cities in Europe to implement 80 measures focused on urban space redistribution, traffic management, PT stops and facilities, multimodal digital and physical integration, user incentives and perception of PT services. The project aims to spearhead a public transport revolution that will strengthen its role as the cornerstone of sustainable mobility and innovation in cities, ultimately leading the transition towards a future of zero-emission mobility.

In this PT Lab webinar, an overview of the measures included in the project will be shared, as well as the support provided to ensure their implementation and impacts beyond the project lifetime. Budapest and Leuven will then talk about their experiences in the preparation and set up of specific measures focused on assessing PT prioritising tools and implementing a new bus system with bus corridors. POLIS will conclude on the project’s legacy for future and wider public transport revolution in Europe.

Preparing public transport for the age of automation

This webinar explores the experiences of cities and public transport operators piloting and testing automated vehicles (AVs) on their roads. The European Union has established a legislative framework for vehicle type approval to facilitate the testing of fully automated vehicles on public roads, but its implementation varies significantly across member states, creating notable implications for local authorities.

POLIS Members EMT Madrid, Helmond, and Ile-de-France Mobilités share their journeys within the context of EU-funded projects SHOW, AUGMENTED CCAM and FABULOS. Through these case studies, we aim to showcase the diverse strategies employed by cities to integrate AVs into their transportation systems, highlighting the challenges they face and the successes they achieve along the way. To approach a multi-level perspective during this event, presentations will be followed by a discussion panel featuring the previous speakers and joined by representatives from the French Ministry of Transport and the European Commission.

This event is exclusive to members.

Integration of Public Transport and Shared Mobility: SUM’s Living Labs Interventions

In this edition of the POLIS PT Lab webinar series, we discuss the future of public transport by addressing the insights and challenges of integrating public transport and shared mobility in three different Living labs of the EU-funded project Horizon SUM, i.e., Athens-Penteli, Greece; Larnaca, Cyprus; and Krakow, Poland. Each living lab will focus on a different aspect of integrating shared mobility and public transport.

Importance of public transport for young and older people

The webinar will explore the vital role of public transport in supporting young and older people, helping to reduce loneliness and social exclusion while ensuring safe and accessible mobility. For these age groups, public transport often serves as a primary means of travel, allowing them to access education, employment, healthcare, and social opportunities. The session will address the unique challenges they face, including physical limitations, age-related mobility concerns, and the lack of access to private vehicles, while highlighting strategies to make transport systems more inclusive.

It will feature insights from experts across Europe, including Professor Kiron Chatterjee from the University of the West of England Bristol, who will present findings from the Transport to Thrive study on young people’s mobility done in partnership with Sustrans. Additionally, Samuel Griffiths and Clelia Schwing from Via Transportation will discuss on-demand transport solutions piloted in Oslo and Dunkirk, while Zahraa Jawad from Vervoerregio Amsterdam will share experiences from the Interreg North-Sea project SMALL.
