Rome (servizi per la mobilità)

Since the early ‘90s Rome has been engaged in pursuing a strategy aimed at obtaining a rebalancing of modal split in favour of collective transport. This process has been certified since then by the active participation of the City in EU R&D projects.

In 2010 the Mayor has issued the “Strategic Plan of Sustainable Mobility” (PSMS), a document which is the starting point for planning future interventions concerning mobility in Rome. It provides a comprehensive and integrated vision of all the interventions on mobility to be undertaken both on a short and long term time scale.

Short-term objectives consider: road safety, environmental conditions, public transport performance, the application of ITS technologies, optimization of existing mobility resources. Importance is given to a sustainable development based on climate change mitigation as well as on economic recovery and social integration and employment in Rome.

Rome is represented in POLIS by its Mobility Agency (RSM – Roma Servizi per la Mobilità) which supports the Municipality in developing its mobility policies and manages the international cooperation on mobility issues on behalf of “Roma Capitale”.

Rome is involved in several EU projects:

CITEAIR and CITEAIR II, CityMobil, Conduits, eSum, CIVITAS CATALIST, STADIUM, Green Emotion, 3IBS, CITYLAB, ICT-EMISSIONS, NODES, NOVELOG, PASTA and ZEEUS.
