35 POLIS members featured in the Applicants' list for the Cities Mission
The European Commission published the names of the cities that have expressed interest to be part of the Cities Mission and have agreed to have their name disclosed. Amongst these, there are 35 POLIS members.
377 cities answered the Cities Mission’s Call for Expression of Interest, which closed on January 31, 2022. After preliminary checks, 362 cities were found to be eligible. These have moved on to the phase of evaluation, which is currently ongoing and will be concluded in April 2022. The selected cities will be officially invited to join the Cities Mission in the months to come.
How we got here
On November 25, 2021, the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission launched the Call for Expression of Interest addressed to European cities interested in participating in the Mission.
National authorities, city networks, and cities themselves expressed strong interest to get a list of the applicant cities ahead of the selection - this information is indeed essential to begin the processes of exchanging ideas and forming support networks irrespective of which cities will eventually be selected to participate in the Cities Mission.
We have created a list, ordered alphabetically by country, showing the shortlisted POLIS members - these cities resulted eligible and have agreed to the publication of their name with the EC:
