UPPER partners take a big step in Valencia

UPPER project partners gathered in Valencia on 26-27 June 2024 to showcase progress and collaborate on improving public transport across European cities. The event highlighted advancements in bus service improvements and the development of innovative software tools to boost ridership and user satisfaction.

On 26 and 27 June, the City of Valencia welcomed all UPPER project partners for a 4th General Assembly which showed great progress, while the project advances towards the midpoint in its lifetime.

The public transport operator EMT Valencia showcased the work they have been doing on bus service improvement on the large Avenida Blasco Ibanez leading from the city centre to the city's great port.

After that, group work supported collaboration between the demonstration sites (city authorities, transport operators, and solution developers in Thessaloniki, Lisbon, Rome, Valencia, Versailles, Oslo, Budapest, Hannover, Mannheim, and Leuven) and the partners developing the so-called U-tools.

U-SIM, U-NEED, U-TWIN, U-GOV, U-SUMP, U-TRANSFER, and U-KNOW are 7 software tools supporting cities in the implementation of 84 measures to improve Public transport ridership and user satisfaction. Cities are currently providing real data for the project technical partners to test and improve their tools, and make sure they will be adapted to the demonstration sites' needs for their own measures within the project.

POLIS is developing the U-KNOW knowledge powerhouse, gathering key resources to support any city or region willing to improve public transport as the backbone of urban mobility. The involvement of 40 partners in the development of content for this powerhouse, in addition to connection with existing resources and networks, requires efficient coordination and long-term cooperation. This is what UPPER enabled and showcased during this 4th General Assembly.

As the summer represents a key milestone in the UPPER developments, POLIS pushes to support all involved cities in preparing the implementation of measures improving public transport with traffic and access regulations, parking management, and prioritisation of public transport in traffic management. Many outcomes coming soon, keep up to date!
