Paris
The City of Paris experiences 6.6 million journeys each day; most of which are less than 3km, and 4 million of which are journeys between central and suburban Paris. This leads to problems of congestion and air pollution.
In order to tackle transport issues, the Municipality of Paris has developed a transport policy since 2001 based on 4 main pillars: improving public transport, promoting soft modes (bikes, powered two wheelers, walking, roller skates), improving the design of public areas (less air pollution, less noise and improved accessibility for persons with reduced mobility) and decentralising the STIF (Syndicat des Transport d’Île-de-France), which is the funding authority for public transport in the Paris region.
Paris is involved in EU projects:
Sugar, Citeair II, Conduits and CITYLAB.
