Five weeks left to apply for the European Green Capital and Green Leaf Awards!

European Green Capital Award (EGCA)

The European Green Capital Award (EGCA) recognises the environmental achievements of European cities (with 100,000+ inhabitants) and aims to inspire others to take positive action in making their cities fit for life.

Applying for the European Green Capital Award could give you the opportunity to receive expert feedback and guidance on your city’s approach to Climate Change Mitigation; Climate Change Adaptation; Sustainable Urban Mobility; Sustainable Land Use; Nature & Biodiversity; Air Quality; Noise; Waste; Water; Green Growth & Eco-innovation; Energy Performance; and Governance.

Winning the European Green Capital title brings many benefits to a city, including, a greater focus on environmental projects, a boost in local pride, international media coverage, increased tourism and foreign investment, in turn developing the local economy and helping to create employment.

EGCA winners and shortlisted cities also gain access to the exclusive European Green Capital Network, providing them with support and a platform for sharing knowledge and best practice. In addition, the winner of the 2021 Award will also receive €350,000 to help kick-start their green year!

European Green Leaf Award (EGLA)

The European Green Leaf Award (EGLA) is given to towns and cities with populations between 20,000 to 100,000 citizens, for their environmental achievements and their potential to act as ‘green ambassadors’ for smaller cities.

Applying for the European Green Leaf Award could give you the opportunity to receive expert feedback and guidance on your city’s approach to Climate Change & Energy Performance; Sustainable Urban Mobility; Nature, Biodiversity & Sustainable Land Use; Air Quality & Noise; Waste & Circular Economy; and Water.

Registration is free and does not require your city to enter the competition at a later date. Registration will allow your city to explore the application process and determine if a formal entry is to be submitted. Applications must be submitted by 18 October 2018 at 16.00 (CEST / GMT +2). ​
