Gelderland

The Province of Gelderland is situated in the eastern part of the Netherlands, in between the Randstad Holland with its mainports and the Rhine Ruhr Area in Germany. As part of two European core network corridors (Rhine Alpine and Northsea - Baltic) the region has to deal with large volumes of freight and passenger transport. Gelderland is known for its nature and waterways and has many cross border cooperation with NorthRhine Westphalia, especially in logistics and passenger transport, as well as road maintenance.

When it comes to sustainability, Gelderland does not pull punches: the region has been working hard to foster a clean, safe, and healthy Gelderland, by finding out how to change and improve ways of living, working, moving, and living. In this regard, sustainable mobility is one of the province's key areas of interest, as they aim to make smart and clean travel easier for citizens, as well as encourage companies to transport goods in an equally smart and clean way.

Moreover, accessibility lies at the heart of Gelderland's mobility policy. Through their Vision for an Accessible Gelderland, the Province aims to entice travellers to make the smartest and cleanest choices by connecting, changing and greening. The vision focuses on five building blocks for accessibility in order to achieve the greatest impact by 2030:

  1. Realize high-quality hubs on the right locations;
  2. Commitment to short-distance cycling;
  3. Optimize capacity on longer distances;
  4. Further strengthening of our goods transport;
  5. Promote road safety.
