22 March 2023 | Main Stage | 10:00 am - 11:00 am | Without a Just Transition… there just won’t be a transition!

Urban mobility must change substantively, to become cleaner and more resilient- this is no secret. Climate goals may be biting at our heels, nevertheless, efforts to cut carbon cannot overlook the impacts of our ambitious plans on some of the most vulnerable members of society. Affordability, accessibility, and inclusivity must be at the heart of the mobility transition. A Just Transition in urban mobility ensures that the shift towards cleaner mobility is equitable and beneficial to all members of society, while at the same time ensuring our transport sector reflects those it seeks to serve. A major question now for our cities, regions, operators, and others is how to measure or benchmark accessibility. This panel examines how we can better determine what constitutes accessible and affordable transport and how building a more diverse transport workforce, from depot to boardroom, will accelerate this process.

22 March 2023 | Main Stage | 11:30 am - 12:30 pm | Macro-managing Micromobility

Shared micromobility continues to be a hot topic. For many cities, it has been more of a ‘hot potato’, as the ‘invasion’ of e-scooters and e-bikes triggered a public outcry, inflamed debates in the media and put mayors, deputy mayors, and transportation officials on the spot: “Do something!”. New studies, reports and guidelines have been coming out regularly, along with a steady stream of news and editorials. It has become a crowded debate, polarised by technological breakthroughs and regulatory crackdowns. As a network of cities and regions dedicated to transport innovation, it’s our duty to go beyond the media frenzy. We clearly need a constructive framework to stimulate strategic dialogue and cooperation among all parties – that’s the only way of shaping win-win solutions.

23 March 2023 | Main Stage | 10:00 am - 11:00 am | In or out? Managing access to city streets, public space and the curbside

Space in cities is scarce and valuable. The good news is that cities are in charge of public space and can use it as a very powerful tool to prioritise or de-prioritise modes in urban cores, whether it is through the reallocation of space, by putting a price on it, or by dynamically attributing different functions to it. Cities manage different levels of access, trying to get the right vehicle at the right place for the right purpose at the right time. How will the space race reshape our cities in the future? What innovative access regulations, circulation plans, urban space design approaches and ‘last meter’ solutions are leading cities rolling out? What digital support tools are out there and in the pipeline that can support this transition? We dig in!

23 March 2023 | Main Stage | 11:30 am - 12:30 pm | Scaled Electromobility: What’s new? What’s next?

Cities play an important role in the making (or breaking?) of electromobility in Europe. Cities have to keep their focus on the electrification of the entire urban mobility system (for freight and people, collective and individual transport) while addressing concrete and urgent issues related to immediate needs for charging infrastructure. As an additional challenge, cities need to make future-proof investments and have to understand the latest developments in the EV market which includes a growing number and diversity of small electric vehicles popping up, from e-bikes and e-scooters to e-skates and more. Hear from those that are leading this transition as well as the industries that are cooperating with local leaders to take the necessary steps forward.
