Regions

Through the Regions Working Group, POLIS members share common challenges and solutions facing regional actors in the transition to more sustainable urban mobility.

The role and importance of regions are often overlooked in our conversations around urban mobility. From Catalonia’s new bus networks to Baden Württemberg’s expansion of human resources for sustainable transport, POLIS member regions have been playing a pivotal role in developing and testing public transport services, active travel infrastructure, e-mobility…the list goes on!

The Regions Working Group was established in response to calls from members for greater attention to regions’ unique mobility patterns and needs, and thus requirements to respond in different ways to many approaches taken by cities.

Regions across Europe have diverse competencies, politics, and geographies; however, they face many common denominators when it comes to mobility planning and governance.

This Working Group explores leading mobility themes with a focus on regional governance approaches, challenges, and solutions.

The topics being discussed by this working group are:

  • Road traffic management and commuter flows
  • Public transport and shared mobility integration
  • Tourism and related transport issues
  • SUMP planning for regions
  • Decarbonisation
