The applications for the MOBILITY AWARDS are now open
Applications for the MOBILITYAWARDS are open now and close on 31 October 2026. The EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award recognises municipalities that made an outstanding contribution during the campaign, while the MOBILITYACTION Award celebrates mobility management initiatives from organisations, institutions, and civil society.
EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK (EMW) is the European Commission's flagship initiative on sustainable urban mobility. Each 16-22 September, the campaign organises a Mobility Week dedicated to encouraging the organisation of activities promoting innovative and sustainable transport. Thousands of cities, towns, and organisations adhere to the initiative and organise activities to test innovative transport solutions, promote new infrastructure, and raise awareness of the health and environmental benefits of active and sustainable mobility. The 2026 theme is 'Mobility for Everyone', with a focus on intergenerational fairness.
To further celebrate the creative and educational aspect of the many initiatives that took place during 16-22 September 2026, towns, cities, and organisations can apply for the MOBILITYAWARDS. This is a valuable opportunity to showcase innovative approaches and gain international recognition.
The 2025 EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award was won by Riga (Latvia) for its creative public space interventions and active community engagement, while the MOBILITYACTION Award went to the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen – South Tyrol (Italy) for successfully integrating sustainable mobility into the tourism experience. The previous year, POLIS member Bologna received the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award for its focus on accessibility in mobility planning, and the Czech association Pěšky městem (Walk to School) won the MOBILITYACTION Award for its innovative approach to encourage active mobility among children.
About the MOBILITYAWARDS
There are two categories of MOBILITYAWARDS:
- The EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award recognises local authorities that have excelled in raising awareness about sustainable urban mobility. To be eligible, municipalities must have:
- organised activities during the main event week from 16-22 September
- implemented at least one permanent transport measure
- hosted a Car-Free Day during September 2026
- The MOBILITYACTION Award places a spotlight on the campaign’s MOBILITYACTIONs, which are open to civil society organisations, businesses, citizen initiatives, and educational institutions, promoting sustainable mobility throughout the year. It rewards excellence in mobility management, which means promoting sustainable transport and managing the demand for car use by changing travellers' attitudes and behaviours, especially at the level of companies, organisations, and institutions. The eligibility criteria are:
- have an approved MOBILITYACTION published between 1 November 2025 and 31 October 2026 with a focus on mobility management
- being situated in one of the EU, EU candidate countries, and potential EU candidate countries that are part of the Stabilisation and Association Process (SAP), the European Economic Area (EEA), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), or the Eastern Partnership (EaP), except Belarus
The online application form may be accessed and edited until 31 October 2026 at 24:00 (CET).
Applications are assessed by an independent panel of mobility and transport experts. The finalists will be announced in early 2027, and the winner will be recognised at the prestigious award ceremony in Brussels in spring 2027.
