Helsinki-Uusimaa Region
Helsinki-Uusimaa Region is at the heart of Northern Europe in the very south of Finland. The region is home to around 1.8 million inhabitants. The Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council is a joint authority for Helsinki-Uusimaa with 26 member municipalities, including capital Helsinki. We are one of the 18 regional councils in Finland that are mandated in law, receiving our funding mainly from our member municipalities.
Regional Council’s main tasks are regional development and regional land-use planning, as well as lobbying both nationally and internationally, providing funding for regional development projects and running national and EU projects. As part of the regional land use planning we prepare strategic long-term transport system plans for Western and Eastern Uusimaa. Besides POLIS we are involved in European mobility and transport cooperation networks such as CPMR and Scandria Alliance, and have been taking part in many European transport projects.
