STEER-NWE Academy Masterclass Amsterdam
The STEER-NWE project is happy to invite you for it's upcoming in-person Masterclass in Amsterdam on 4th November 2026.
Carsharing remains one of the fastest-growing segments of urban mobility in the EU, with an estimated 129,000 vehicles in operation (67,000 vehicles on free-floating car sharing and 62,000 vehicles in station-based carsharing), with countries such as Netherlands, Germany and Belgium leading the way. Within this context, electric carsharing is a potential energy-efficient solution to reduce private car use and to promote a more sustainable urban mobility ecosystem. But electrification of these fleets comes with big challenges, namely high investment costs on vehicles and charging infrastructure, low user adoption, or lack of viable business models.
One of the ways to increase the energy and financial efficiency of electric carsharing services is the adoption of smart and bidirectional charging, where vehicles can store energy and return it to the grid during peak demand periods. This helps stabilise the electricity network and keeps energy costs more affordable as operators can purchase it when is cheaper (for example, during noon when solar production is high), and discharge when it is more expensive.
However, carsharing operators and local authorities still lack knowledge about this topic, namely on technical aspects, viable business models and use cases, governance aspects, and broad acceptance. To address this capacity need and share inspiring examples, STEER-NWE is hosting it’s Second Masterclass on November 4 2026, in the city of Amsterdam (13:00-15:30).
