Mobilising Mobility: The future of mobility in cities - designing policy responses to mobility innovation

How do cities imagine the evolution of their mobility environment in ten or twenty years? What are the main innovations that are changing the landscape of urban transport services for both passengers and goods?

The design and implementation of effective urban mobility policies and regulations are key to harnessing opportunities and mitigating negative impacts of the changing urban mobility environment.

Speakers from the SPROUT and GECKO projects will illustrate how the co-creation of city-specific future urban mobility scenarios and the involvement of stakeholders in this discussion contribute to understanding the current transition in urban mobility and to foreseeing its impacts. The aim of these practices is the design of regulation and governance models that can make mobility innovation work for the benefit of all.

About SPROUT and GECKO

SPROUT aims to put cities at the heart of the urban mobility transition. By building on the solutions to urban mobility challenges - related to both passenger transport and urban freight logistics - the work of SPROUT will be focused on producing new and practice-based knowledge and tools. Such knowledge and tools will contribute to an evidence-based and innovative policy response to disruptive innovations in mobility.

GECKO supports authorities with tools and recommendations for new regulatory frameworks to lead the transition to the new mobility era of cooperative, inclusive, competitive, sustainable and interconnected mobility across all modes, through evidence-based research. The project is led by the international public transport association, UITP, and involves several key stakeholder organisations (Polis, IRU and CORTE) as well as research and knowledge centres and businesses.
