Towards "zero-emission" cities
Polis is accompanying its member, the Brussels-Capital Region in its international consultation process by co-organising an open Working Group meeting with twenty other European cities and regions as well as other stakeholders.
The meeting will offer the opportunity to learn from some of the best and bold practices in Europe to limit the number and/or ban conventionally fueled vehicles, including Madrid's Plan A, London's ULEZ or Oslo's policy which combines urban vehicle access restriction and promotion of electric mobility.
The participation of several representatives of the European Commission, from both DG MOVE and DG ENV will allow cities and regions to understand how the European Commission can support them with their respective transport policies for cleaner air.
All regions and cities will have the opportunity to present their own measures to limit traffic emissions in urban areas during roundtable discussion sessions. Exchanges will focus on the technological challenges related to the implementation and enforcement of such measures; their impacts (actual or expected); and the promotion and deployment of alternatives to conventionally fuelled vehicles (e.g. electric mobility).
