Belgium celebrates installing its 100,000th EV charging station as Europe nears the 1 million mark
As Europe races toward one million public charging points, Belgium is celebrating its own landmark: the installation of the 100,000th public charger. To mark the occasion, industry leaders, researchers, and EV enthusiasts will gather in Brussels for a special event highlighting the country’s progress
According to EV Belgium, leveraging data from Eco-Movement and the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO), Europe is poised to surpass one million public EV charging points this summer. A remarkable share of these—nearly 100,000—are ultra-fast chargers, capable of recharging vehicles in under 20 minutes. This surge aligns well with the European Union’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which mandates transparent pricing, common card payments, and full interoperability across networks.

Belgium continues to assert its leadership in the EV ecosystem. Just last month, the country could count approximately 90,000 standard-speed chargers and around 7,000 fast chargers. Notably, the number of fast chargers in Wallonia has doubled in the past year, underscoring a rapid regional acceleration. Indeed, EV Belgium projects that by 2030, the nation could host up to two million electric vehicles.
This would already be a remarkable feat, but the momentum is far from over. EV Belgium and our member MOBI Electromobility Research Centre (VUB) are proud to announce a major achievement: the installation of the 100,000th public charging point.
To celebrate the occasion, they are inviting stakeholders and the public to a celebratory event in Brussels.
