EUCAD 2025 - 5th European Conference on Connected and Automated Driving

POLIS will participate in EUCAD 2025 in Ispra, Italy, from 13 to 15 May.

We will be presenting insights on automated mobility in smaller cities and the future workforce needs for the CCAM sector, while also showcasing the RESKILLING project’s focus on workforce adaptation and skills development for the transport sector’s shift to automation.

The European Commission, together with the European Partnership on Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM) partnership and the FAME project, organises EUCAD. This unique event gathers political leaders, industry representatives, researchers, and public authorities to discuss CCAM research, policy, and deployment. The programme includes high-level discussions, technical sessions, and an exhibition area that showcases leading European and national initiatives in the field.

POLIS at EUCAD 2025

POLIS will participate in the 5th European Conference on Connected and Automated Driving (EUCAD 2025), which will take place from 13 to 15 May in Ispra, Italy.

How automated mobility in public transport can address the needs of smaller cities and their citizens

As part of the official programme, POLIS will contribute to Session ID46: How automated mobility in public transport can address the needs of smaller cities and their citizens.

Laura Babio, POLIS’ Traffic Efficiency Cluster Lead, will share insights into the perspectives of local and regional authorities on implementing automated vehicles. The session will explore municipal expectations, the potential of automated vehicles (AVs) in non-urbanised areas, and the social dilemmas around their deployment. It will also discuss how social science can help unpack citizen expectations and address uncertainties. POLIS member City of Helmond will present its experience as a medium-sized city engaged in AV deployment, contributing to a valuable discussion on real-world challenges and opportunities.

RESKILLING in the exhibition area

POLIS will also represent the RESKILLING project at EUCAD 2025. Launched in January 2025, this EU-funded initiative supports workforce and skills adaptation to CCAM deployment in the transport sector. RESKILLING promotes a co-innovation framework based on inclusivity, co-creation, and social innovation, aiming to ensure that the shift to CCAM is not only technologically advanced but also socially inclusive and sustainable.

The project maps the socio-economic impacts of CCAM, identifies job categories at risk, and develops tailored (re)training programmes for key stakeholder groups, including public and private mobility operators, safety drivers, authorities, and service providers. One of its central outputs will be the CCAM Employment & Skills Observatory, a dynamic knowledge hub that supports evidence-based policymaking and workforce planning.

At EUCAD 2025, several RESKILLING partners will address human-centred CCAM needs, workforce transformation, and the challenges local and regional authorities face in adapting to new business models. The conference will offer a key opportunity to strengthen the community around CCAM skills, build connections with mission cities, and link with broader initiatives in the sector.

Be sure to visit the interactive 'CCAM skills' booth, shared with the sister project CCAM-ERAS. Stakeholders can take part in a short questionnaire to help shape future engagement activities. POLIS coordinates this effort as part of its role in stakeholder outreach for the project.
