Submit your abstract for the 7th European Mobility Days of Strasbourg!

The European Mobility Days of Strasbourg will take place from 13 to 14 November 2025. This year's theme is: 'Peri-urban and rural areas: how can we make a successful transition to low-carbon mobility for all?'

The 7th edition of the European Mobility Days of Strasbourg will be held on 13 and 14 November 2025. Stakeholders of the mobility sector will meet in Strasbourg for fruitful exchanges on specific challenges for low-carbon mobility in peri-urban and rural areas.

This 2-day event is co-organised by POLIS member CEREMA, the French public body supporting the State and local authorities in public planning and transport policies, CNFPTEurométropole de StrasbourgUniversity Gustave EiffelGARTUTPFFNAUMOT (Transfrontier Operational Mission), ADEUS (Strasbourg Urban Planning Agency Upper Rhine), and POLIS network.

The conference will be open to public decision-makers, engineers and technicians from public authorities, academic researchers and practitioners, companies and start-ups in the transport and mobility sector.

Peri-urban and rural areas are characterised as ‘low density’ sectors, although it is not easy to give a very precise definition. However, these areas face specific mobility challenges, such as the need to offer more travel solutions - including sometimes fossil fuel solutions - to some inhabitants subjected to forced immobility (social and territorial inclusions), and the need to deploy low-carbon solutions on a very large scale in areas that are far from major urban hubs and their amenities. In the European context, the ageing populations in these areas make it all the more urgent to find solutions that can break the dependence on the private car.

Key topics

The conference aims to address peri-urban and rural mobility issues from a European perspective, encouraging inter-territorial and cross-border cooperation, by combining feedback, technical perspectives and research findings around the following six main themes:

  • Alternative services to the private car
  • A focus on active mobility: cycling, walking and personal mobility devices
  • Actions to reduce distances and act on demand
  • Offering mobility solutions that are accessible to all
  • Strengthening cooperation towards integrated rural mobility
  • Sustainable mobility solutions
