Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure invites cities to apply for support
The Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure (BICI) will support cities around the world in designing and delivering safe, accessible and high-quality cycling networks. Applications are open until 14 September!
Combining capacity building, technical assistance and peer learning, the initiative aims to strengthen local expertise and political commitment while demonstrating the role of cycling in creating safer, healthier and more climate-resilient cities.
BICI will begin with a global competition selecting up to 25 cities to receive capacity-building and planning support. Ten of these cities will then advance to the implementation phase, receiving grants of US$400,000 and tailored technical guidance to bring their proposed projects to life.
Overall, the initiative aims to deliver ten world-class cycling projects benefiting more than 15 million people, train over 1,500 professionals and support the expansion or improvement of more than 200 miles of cycling infrastructure. It will also culminate in the publication of the first-ever global cycling design guide, complementing the Global Street Design Guide.
POLIS joins the BICI Selection Committee
POLIS Secretary General Karen Vancluysen will serve on the BICI Selection Committee, contributing her expertise in sustainable urban mobility to the selection of participating cities.
Her involvement will bring a European and international perspective to the assessment of cities seeking to accelerate the delivery of safe, connected cycling infrastructure and make cycling a more integral part of everyday urban mobility.
