POLIS + European Commission Webinar: EV recharging done right—Sustainable Transport Forum Guidelines for Public Authorities
On 26 June 2025, POLIS and the European Commission (EC) will host a webinar showcasing the new guidelines for public authorities from the Sustainable Transport Forum (STF). The STF aims to provide guidance and best practice examples to public authorities and other relevant stakeholders on AFIR implementation.
With the adoption of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), the European Commission (EC) has set up ambitious targets for electric vehicle (EV) recharging infrastructure. National, regional and local authorities play a crucial role in this deployment, but doing so presents a range of new challenges that call for capacity-building initiatives and the best-practices exchange.
How is the EC supporting local and regional authorities?
With this in mind, the European Commission Sustainable Transport Forum’s subgroup on public authorities (STF-PA) recently published three guidelines to assist these authorities in AFIR implementation:
- Guidelines for tender procedure for deployment of public electric recharging infrastructure for cars and vans
- Guidance of fire safety for electric vehicles parked and charging infrastructure in covered parking spaces
- Recommendations for public authorities supporting the expansion of recharging infrastructure tailored for specialised and captive fleets
In addition, the EC will soon publish guidelines on the accessibility of EV recharging infrastructure in the EU, too.
These resources can be particularly useful for policymakers, city practitioners and other stakeholders in the e-mobility ecosystem. Together with previous STF-PA Recommendations, these documents will be part of the European Alternative Fuels Observatory.
This webinar, hosted by POLIS, will feature insightful presentations from the European Commission and STF members E-mobility Europe and GreenWay. The session will explain these guidelines in details, and how they can support a successful rollout of EV recharging infrastructure, one that meets the needs of EV drivers, the interest of private actors (CPOs, fleet managers etc.) and the policy priorities of public authorities in all levels of governance.
