ReSKILLING Side Event at the POLIS Conference 2026: Co-creating Society-First and Workforce-Ready Pathways for CCAM

Bringing cities, regions and mobility stakeholders together to explore how CCAM can deliver public value, support workforce transformation and unlock new business opportunities.

How can cities and regions scale Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) in a way that delivers public value, responds to diverse local needs and supports a fair transition for workers and businesses? This will be the central question of the ReSKILLING side event at the POLIS Conference 2026, taking place from 09:00 to 12:00 CET at the UITP Head Office.

The Horizon Europe-funded ReSKILLING project will bring together representatives from cities, municipalities, regions, transport authorities, planning bodies, ReSKILLING Advisory Board members and project partners for a collaborative workshop exploring the societal, workforce and business implications of CCAM deployment. Moving beyond a purely technological perspective, the session will encourage participants to exchange experiences, identify common challenges and develop practical approaches to support the responsible scaling of CCAM.

From exchanging experiences to shaping practical solutions

The session will open with an introduction to ReSKILLING, its objectives and activities, followed by an interactive exchange in which participants will share their experiences and expectations regarding CCAM developments. Working in pairs, they will identify the main opportunities and concerns emerging from automated mobility, then bring selected insights to the wider group.

The core of the workshop will be a World Café exercise, bringing participants together around three interconnected themes:

  • Shaping CCAM for society: How can cities and public authorities guide CCAM development towards solutions that address public needs and create societal value? Discussions will explore the role of local and regional authorities, stakeholder participation and the integration of public-value considerations into planning, procurement and decision-making.
  • Workforce transformation and skills: How can organisations prepare for the changing jobs and skills requirements associated with CCAM? Participants will discuss job quality, employment opportunities, reskilling and upskilling measures, and the collaboration needed between employers, education and training providers, trade unions and public authorities.
  • CCAM business models and opportunities: What new opportunities could CCAM create for businesses, and what is needed to make them viable? Drawing on the ReSKILLING project's business model resources, participants will explore potential revenue streams, operational savings, investment opportunities and the professional profiles needed to support business development and CCAM adoption.

In the final part of the workshop, participants will bring these three perspectives together to develop integrated implementation pathways or scenarios for CCAM deployment. Each group will identify at least one concrete action to initiate within the next six months, helping translate the discussions into practical next steps.

Join us at the POLIS Conference 2026

Scaling CCAM successfully requires collaboration between public authorities, transport operators, businesses, workers and other stakeholders. Ensuring that this transition responds to local needs, delivers public value and supports workforce adaptation is essential to making the most of emerging mobility opportunities.

The ReSKILLING side event offers POLIS Conference attendees an opportunity to contribute their expertise, exchange perspectives with peers, and help shape practical pathways toward a more inclusive, socially responsible, and workforce-ready future for automated mobility.
