Join the international pedestrians’ conference Walk21 Rotterdam “Walk the Talk”

With the conference motto “Walk the Talk” from 7- 10 October 2019 by the City of Rotterdam, the next Walk21 Conference will gather 180 speakers, politicians, policy makers, urban planners, administrators and academics from all over the world to talk, brainstorm, and hold discussions while walking and admiring the city of Rotterdam during its ‘walkshops’ – workshops on the go.

Rotterdam’s mobility policy takes a stand – and a walk!

By hosting the Walk21 Conference, Polis member Rotterdam is choosing to put pedestrians on a pedestal and bring international knowledge on active mobility to the Netherlands. The Netherlands are known for the cycling culture, but indeed, Rotterdam wants to show that walking also features prominently in its mobility and sustainability policy.

Speakers and Polis’ involvement

Walk21 Rotterdam has received 356 high quality contributions from 48 countries, producing an appealing programme categorised into three themes: Smart, Healthy and For Everyone. The first speakers are already known: Ben Rossiter from Victoria Walks, Cecilia Vaca Jones from the Bernard van Leer Foundation and Adriaan Geuzefrom West 8.

Polis will participate with a session on walking in MaaS on Tuesday 8th October 2019. The session will have as speaker Karen Vancluysen, Polis Secretary General. In addition, the results of the ISAAC Project’s (Stimulating safe walking and cycling within a multimodal transport environment) survey on safe walking and cycling will be further shared by Polis.

What is Walk21?

Walk21 is an international foundation aimed at safeguarding and promoting a pedestrian-friendly environment in cities. This international pedestrian’s conference has previously been organised in Melbourne, Bogotà, Vienna, among other places, and this year the 20th edition is in Rotterdam.
