Île-de-France Mobilités brings Navigo Annual pass to Android smartphones and smartwatches
Île-de-France Mobilités has taken another significant step in the digital transformation of public transport by enabling holders of the annual Navigo pass to validate their journeys directly with Android smartphones and Wear OS smartwatches.
Introduced on 2 July 2026, the feature marks another milestone in the region's ongoing transition toward fully digital public transport ticketing and removes the need for millions of commuters to carry a physical transport card.
The launch follows the successful rollout of digital versions of Navigo Day, Week, and Month passes, making the Annual subscription the latest fare product to become available on mobile devices. Support is currently rolling out gradually on Android, while iOS compatibility is expected by September 2026. Imagine R package pass subscriptions are scheduled to arrive in time for the 2027 academic year.
A smartphone that becomes your transport ticket
Once transferred, the smartphone or smartwatch functions exactly like a traditional Navigo card. Passengers simply tap their device on a ticket validator to begin their journey, without needing to unlock the phone or open an application.
The feature is integrated into the Île-de-France Mobilités app and is designed to make commuting faster and more convenient while reducing reliance on physical transport cards. The digital pass provides access to the entire Île-de-France public transport network, including metro, buses, trams, RER and suburban rail services.
How to transfer the Navigo Annual Pass
Subscribers who already hold a valid Navigo Annual or Navigo Annual Senior pass can transfer it to a compatible Android device directly from the Île-de-France Mobilités application.
The process consists of three simple steps:
- Log in to your Île-de-France Mobilités account;
- Select 'Transfer my annual Navigo';
- Place the physical Navigo card against the back of the smartphone when prompted so the app can deactivate the physical card and securely load the pass onto the device.
The transfer takes only a few minutes, and once completed, the mobile device becomes the sole active travel credential.
Security built into the system
To prevent fraud, Île-de-France Mobilités allows only one active version of an annual subscription at a time: this means users cannot simultaneously use both the physical card and the smartphone.

However, the process is reversible, and if a passenger later decides they prefer the traditional card, they can transfer the subscription back through the application, provided they have kept their original Navigo card.
The application also verifies eligibility before initiating the transfer, as users must have an active Île-de-France Mobilités account, an associated profile photo, a compatible smartphone, and a subscription that is not suspended or affected by unpaid balances.
If a smartphone is lost or stolen, subscribers can immediately declare the loss through their online customer account or another device running the Île-de-France Mobilités app. Once a replacement phone is available, the digital pass can be restored. Passengers who need to travel immediately can also obtain a replacement physical Navigo card through participating customer service locations before transferring the subscription back to a mobile device.
An ode to the Annual pass
Beyond the convenience of digital ticketing, the Navigo Annual pass continues to offer several financial and practical benefits.
Subscribers effectively receive one month free each year, as the annual price corresponds to eleven monthly payments. French employers generally reimburse at least 50% of the subscription cost for eligible employees, while the annual plan also eliminates the need for monthly renewals.
Additional benefits include access to secure bicycle parking, preferential Park & Ride facilities, carpooling incentives, station toilet access and promotional offers, including tickets for selected events at Paris La Défense Arena.

Part of a wider digital transformation
The mobile Annual Pass is the latest step in a modernisation programme launched by Île-de-France Mobilités in 2016. The transport authority has progressively digitised ticketing across the Paris region by replacing paper tickets with contactless and smartphone-based alternatives.
According to the authority, 99.9% of ticket validations are now digital through Navigo Easy, Navigo Liberté+, or smartphone ticketing. The remaining paper tickets are expected to disappear before the end of the year, reducing waste while simplifying travel for passengers. Around 1.3 million Annual Navigo subscribers are eligible for the new mobile service, with approximately 1.4 million Imagine R subscribers expected to follow in 2027.
