Île-de-France launches its first urban cable car

On December 13, 2025, the Île-de-France region inaugurated its first cable car, Câble C1. This line connects Créteil to Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, passing through Valenton and Limeil-Brévannes.

As the first cable line in the Île-de-France region and the longest urban cable car in Europe, this new transport option is both sustainable and cost-effective. It provides residents in the Val-de-Marne area with better access to the metro and local industrial hubs. The total journey time is just 18 minutes, making it the fastest option compared to buses.

An accessible and sustainable solution

The cable car is an integral part of Île-de-France Mobilités’ strategy to connect isolated areas. Given urban barriers such as high-speed rail lines, national roads, and the Valenton freight yard, the cable car is a more viable option than constructing a bus or tram line, which would have been more expensive and taken longer to build. Plus, it has a very low environmental impact, as it operates fully on electric energy.

With the launch of this new transport mode, more than 11,000 travellers can save time and benefit from improved access to their destinations. The cable car operates every day with a frequent service. Safety is a top priority, featuring CCTV and emergency call buttons, while also ensuring accessibility for wheelchairs, bicycles, and strollers.

The project was financed by the Île-de-France Region (49%), the Val-de-Marne Department (30%), and contributions from the State and the European Union (21%).
