The Annual POLIS Conference 2025 is more than just talks and panels: it is a chance to see sustainable mobility in action! Join one of five exclusive site visits on 27 November to explore how the City of Utrecht is transforming urban transport!

The Annual POLIS Conference 2025 will take place on 26-27 November in Utrecht, The Netherlands. After a record-breaking 2024 edition with over 1,000 participants, the POLIS team is gearing up for another exciting gathering—this time hosted by the City of Utrecht, our current POLIS President.

Set in the centrally located Beatrix Building (Royal Jaarbeurs), right next to Utrecht Central Station and within walking distance from the city centre, the Annual POLIS Conference 2025 promises not only insightful sessions and engaging networking, but also a chance to experience Utrecht’s innovative mobility solutions firsthand.

On 27 November, participants will have the opportunity to join one of five expert-led site visits, showcasing best-in-class approaches to sustainable urban mobility. Whether you are interested in cycling infrastructure, smart logistics, public transport coordination, or rail operations, there is a tour for you!

#1: Cycling through Utrecht’s urban makeover

Explore how Utrecht is reclaiming space for people and bikes!
Cycle through the city’s iconic highway-to-canal transformation and revamped second ring road, where traffic lanes have made way for greenery, bikes, and public transport priority.

  • Capacity: 25
  • Duration: 2 hours
#2. Joining forces for better public transport

See multi-level governance in action at Utrecht’s Public Transport Terminal and learn how city, province, and national authorities collaborate on tram operations and citywide mobility planning. Includes a bus tour of the city centre.

  • Capacity: 45
  • Duration: 2.5–3 hours
#3. 10-minute city: From footstep to pedal

Join a walking and cycling tour to discover how Utrecht is building its '10-minute city'—from iconic bike bridges and station bike parks to pedestrian-first streets supporting healthy urban living.

  • Capacity: 70 (2 groups of 35)
  • Duration: 2.5–3 hours
#4. Managing freight the Utrecht way

Take a walking tour through the historic centre to see Utrecht’s forward-thinking approach to urban freight—from electric boats and smart loading zones to zero-emission construction sites and a scenic Dom Tower climb.

  • Capacity: 70 (2 groups of 35)
  • Duration: 3 hours
#5. Behind the scenes of the Dutch Railways

Visit the Operational Control Centre Rail (OCCR), where all Dutch train operators collaborate in real-time to manage the national rail network. Includes a visit to Utrecht Centraal, the country's busiest station.
