KU Leuven

KU Leuven is the largest University in Belgium with its main campus located in Leuven and several campuses across Flanders. To foster interdisciplinary research, several subject-specific KU Leuven Institutes were established, building bridges across the university’s faculties.

Education is organised by 15 faculties. The research is carried out in departments and research groups. Faculties and departments are organized in 3 groups: HumanitiesScience & Technology and Biomedical Sciences.

Two institutes will be directly involved in the POLIS Network. The KU Leuven Institute for Mobility (LIM) aims to tackle challenges regarding mobility, such as transport infrastructure and public space, logistics, and the health and environmental impacts of mobility. The KU Leuven Urban Studies Institute (LUSI) focuses on city related research, including several of POLIS’ priority topics such as urban planning, 15-minute concept and citizen engagement strategies.

The university is- or has been- involved in CATAPULT: PoliCies for inclusive, demand-oriented and target group-specific automated mobility solutions for cities, UPPER: Unleashing the Potential of Public transport in EuRope and Active mobility increased for sustainable zero-carbon urban multimodality, through human-centric planning, mobility hubs and behaviour change.
