PLATFORM 10: 10 years of the Platform for Electromobility
Since 2015, the Platform for Electromobility has united industry leaders, NGOs, and associations to drive the electrification of Europe’s transport sector. To mark its 10th anniversary, the organisation is hosting PLATFORM 10 on 2 July 2025 in Brussels.
As a cross-sector advocacy alliance, the Platform for Electromobility brings together EU-based industries, NGOs, and civil society to foster collaboration and shape a cleaner, more efficient, and interconnected transport system. Over the past decade, it has been a forum to share expertise and a leading voice in electrifying mobility and advancing European policy towards sustainable, competitive mobility.
To celebrate a decade of progress and the symbolic halfway point to 2035—the landmark year for zero-emission mobility in Europe—the Platform is celebrating with the exclusive ‘PLATFORM 10’ on 2 July from 18:00 CEST, in Brussels.
This event will gather members, partners, and policymakers for an evening of networking and forward-looking discussions. Attendance is by invitation only, though a limited number of additional spots may be available. You can still apply to request an invitation up until 14 June (only selected applicants will be contacted).
A decade of progress in electromobility
Europe’s transport landscape has transformed dramatically over the last ten years. Thanks to the collective efforts of policymakers, industry, and civil society, electrification has moved from ambition to reality.
From 2015 to 2025, electric mobility has reached incredible numbers:
- EV sales in the EU are expected to reach 5 million units in 2025 (BEVs – passenger cars, and LCVs), up from fewer than 200,000 in 2015.
- As of February 2025, public EV charging points have surpassed 1 million, compared to just a few tens of thousands in 2015.
- The number of electric buses has surged from around 170 in 2015 to a projected 35,000 by 2025. In 2024, nearly half of all new EU city buses were zero-emission, predominantly BEVs. On current trends, all new city buses could be zero-emission by 2027, eight years ahead of schedule.
- In 2025, the e-bike is the most sold electric vehicle in the European market, with over 5 million units sold annually—a remarkable growth since 2015, when the e-bike European market was in its nascent stages.
- Rail electrification is a cornerstone of the EU’s strategy to decarbonise transport, with significant progress achieved: in 2022, 9% of EU railway lines were electrified, carrying 80% of traffic, with 52% of the energy used coming from renewables.
- By 2025, EVs of all types will contribute to avoiding the use of nearly 2.5 million barrels of fuel per day worldwide.
- Smart charging, virtually non-existent in 2015, is growing fast. In the UK, 52% of EV home charger owners used smart chargers in 2022, with three-quarters making use of the smart features regularly.
- In 2017, the European Commission set the objective for the EU to become the world’s second-largest battery manufacturer. From producing 44 GWh in 2020, capacity is expected to reach 400 GWh by 2025, supporting 800,000 jobs and generating €250 billion in economic activity. Over 40 gigafactories have been announced across the continent.
- The EV model range continues to expand, with 371 battery-electric vehicle models available in 2023. By 2021, the average EV price had dropped below €30,000.
Despite this impressive progress, the future remains uncertain. Continued commitment is essential to ensure electric mobility remains central to Europe’s clean and competitive transport system until 2035 and beyond.
This, and more, will be discussed on 2 July. Do not miss this event!
