New York City announces measures on taxis, shared mobility and cycling

New York City has set out several announcements in recent days to adapt transport in the city to respond to COVID-19.

Shared electric moped company Revel is offering free use of vehicles for health workers in an effort to ease access to hospitals. Additionally, the company is aiming to expand its service area to serve a great number of health centres.

The city's taxi service is also seeking to hire Uber and Lyft drivers who no longer have work as a result of the crisis. The recruitment drive is being done to help deliver food to elderly citizens who are no longer able to get out to shops.

Governer Cuomo has also recently announced plans to close off streets to traffic, providing more space for walking and cycling throughout the city. Plans have also been announced to potentially close parks to avoid high densities of people.
