ACUMEN Webinar: AI in traffic management — lessons from four European cities
How can AI make cities smarter? Join the ACUMEN Webinar on 22 January to hear how Luxembourg, Helsinki, Athens, and Amsterdam are using AI for traffic, sustainability, and mobility!
As cities across Europe struggle with congestion and air pollution, and with the complexity of managing multiple transport modes, artificial intelligence is increasingly being seen as part of the solution. But how does AI work in practice for traffic management, and what have cities learnt from trialling these technologies?
The ACUMEN project has spent three years developing and testing AI-powered tools in four European cities: Luxembourg, Helsinki, Athens and Amsterdam. Each city has tackled different challenges, from encouraging sustainable travel choices to managing disruptions and integrating autonomous vehicles into existing transport networks.
This webinar provides an opportunity to hear directly from the pilot cities about what has worked, what has not, and what other cities should consider when exploring AI for traffic management.
What to expect
The session will cover practical applications across four distinct use cases. In Helsinki, the focus has been on using AI to encourage travellers to choose more sustainable transport options through a traffic app. Luxembourg has been testing the integration of automated vehicles into door-to-door journeys. Amsterdam has developed simulations to help manage multi-modal transport during critical disruptions, whilst Athens has used AI to support real-time traffic management decisions through transport simulation.
Each pilot will share insights from their experience, including the challenges encountered and the lessons learnt. There will also be time for questions and discussion about how these tools might be adapted or applied in other cities.
Who should attend
This webinar is relevant for transport planners, city officials, traffic management professionals and anyone interested in understanding how AI can support better urban mobility. Whether you're actively exploring AI solutions or simply curious about what's possible, this session offers practical insights from cities that have been testing these technologies in real-world conditions.
