Karen Vancluysen is new Polis Executive Director
Karen Vancluysen has 16 years of professional experience in the field of sustainable urban mobility. Since 1998, she has been involved in urban transport networking and policy activities as well as many EU funded transport and urban mobility projects. Karen had been Polis’ Research Director for the last 8 years and has now taken over from Sylvain Haon as Executive Director. Prior to joining Polis in 2004, Karen was Network Manager at ACCESS-EUROCITIES for a New Mobility Culture and project manager at Langzaam Verkeer, a Belgian centre for mobility management.
The new Executive Director was appointed by Polis' Management Committee, which is comprised of elected Polis members: the cities of Madrid (President), Budapest (Vice-President) and Stuttgart (Treasurer), jointly with Bilbao, LEPT (London European Partnership for Transport), Perugia, Pisa, Rotterdam and Toulouse.
Karen Vancluysen: “I am committed to further strengthening Polis’ position as the leading network of cities and regions on urban transport innovation. In the coming year, we’ll continue to explore the link between transport and health, including air quality as well as active mobility, while also looking into links with other relevant policy areas that should be touched upon through integrated instruments such as Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. The deployment of clean vehicles for freight and public transport, the potential of open data and cooperative ITS, on-street parking solutions and standards, and improved safety for vulnerable road users will also be high on the agenda of our members and activities. On the shorter term, I look forward to welcoming our members as well as other transport stakeholders we’ve been working with for many years, at the forthcoming annual Polis conference in Madrid!”
