Apply for the CIVITAS Awards 2020 - Europe's leading sustainable urban mobility prizes
CIVITAS cities are invited to apply for this year’s CIVITAS Awards - some of Europe's most prestigious prizes for sustainable urban mobility. The Awards provide a unique platform for cities to demonstrate their achievements and innovative work in the field.
This year will be remembered for many reasons; not least, it has been a year of radical change in the area of mobility. The COVID-19 pandemic has completely transformed the way people live and travel and, consequently, many cities have had to adapt their mobility systems to keep their citizens and things moving.
In light of this, the CIVITAS Awards 2020 are designed to showcase the efforts of CIVITAS cities that have rapidly and successfully adapted in response to and demonstrated resilience during the pandemic. Alongside this, the long-standing dedication of CIVITAS cities to sustainable mobility will again be recognised.
Applications are invited in relation to the following prizes this year:
- The “CIVITAS Resilience” Award, which will recognise cities that have introduced (ad-hoc) bold and transformational measures because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This is split into two categories, one for larger municipalities with above 100,000 inhabitants and one for smaller municipalities with below 100,000 inhabitants.
- The "CIVITAS Legacy" Award, which will reward a town or city that has translated their long-term commitment to the CIVITAS network and sustainable mobility into high-impact, innovative measures.

All cities that have signed the CIVITAS Declaration and are members of the CIVITAS Forum Network can apply for both awards. If your town or city is not yet a Forum member, please complete and sign the CIVITAS Forum Declaration.
The decision of the CIVITAS Awards Jury is expected in the second half of September, with the winners announced during Urban Mobility Days 2020.
All Award finalists will enjoy Europe-wide exposure and serve as inspiration for other cities to opt for greener mobility! The winners will be invited to speak a session on 29 September during the above-mentioned Urban Mobility Days 2020 and be promoted on all CIVITAS communication channels.
Finalists also have the chance to have a short video produced showcasing their mobility achievements. Should they wish to take up this opportunity, the cities selected will be asked to provide a small amount of footage.
