Lviv

Lviv, a prominent city in western Ukraine, has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to advancing sustainable transport and mobility. In 2019, the city approved its Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), outlining a 15-year vision complemented by a detailed four-year action plan. This strategic framework aims to optimise urban mobility, enhance residents' quality of life, and mitigate environmental impacts.

A key objective of Lviv's SUMP is to achieve a modal split where sustainable mobility modes—public transport, cycling, walking, and light personal mobility—constitute at least 80% by 2030. To this end, Lviv has invested in expanding its cycling infrastructure, earning recognition as the "Cycling Capital of Ukraine." Over a span of three years, the city developed approximately 35 kilometres of cycling tracks and lanes, promoting cycling as a viable and eco-friendly mode of transport.

Public transport remains central to Lviv's mobility strategy, with over 50% of residents relying on it daily. The city has focused on modernising its public transport systems to ensure efficiency and accessibility. Additionally, Lviv has been proactive in organising forums and engaging with international organisations to discuss and develop urban mobility solutions. For instance, the Lviv Urban Mobility Forum 2024, held from 16-18 September, concentrated on the resilience of urban mobility and transportation systems amidst challenges such as martial law, energy risks, and financial uncertainty.

Furthermore, Lviv's involvement in international projects underscores its dedication to sustainable mobility. The city is a participant in the SCALE-UP project as a Fellow City, focusing on scaling up innovative urban mobility solutions. Such collaborations facilitate the exchange of best practices and the implementation of cutting-edge mobility strategies.

Through these comprehensive efforts, Lviv exemplifies a robust commitment to sustainable transport and mobility, striving to create an efficient, accessible, and environmentally friendly urban environment for its residents.
