POLIS is hiring a Communications Intern
We are looking for a new Communications Intern to join our Brussels-based Secretariat.
The Intern will help to enhance the visibility of POLIS and its members from across Europe.
They will be part of the Communications team, managing POLIS social media profiles and the social media calendar; collecting POLIS social media analytics from LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Instagram; drafting articles for the POLIS website and Members’ Area; supporting the production and publication of digital and print publications, including POLIS' Cities in Motion magazine; producing short video clips and visual content for all of POLIS' digital channels; providing, when needed, communications support for POLIS projects and Working Groups under the guidance of the Communications and Membership Lead; taking notes and reporting on in-person and online events to support communications activities; and assisting with other communications tasks as required.
The Intern will also support the preparation and editing of the Annual POLIS Conference communications materials, assist the Conference Team with printing, organising, and displaying signage at the venue, and handle ad hoc conference-related tasks as needed.

POLIS is the leading European network of cities and regions on urban transport innovation. Since 1989, European local and regional authorities have been working together within POLIS to promote sustainable mobility through the deployment of innovative transport solutions.
We aim to improve local transport through integrated strategies that address the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of transport. To this end, we support the exchange of experiences and the transfer of knowledge between our members and facilitate the dialogue with mobility stakeholders from the private sector.
Fostering these partnerships makes research and innovation in transport more accessible and scalable. We also act as the voice of our members towards the European institutions to help shape EU mobility policy.
Profile
The successful candidate should have:
- a degree (studies completed), preferably in the field of communications/journalism or related to transport, urban planning, or similar;
- first-hand experience with communications, journalism, or public relations, including, to some degree: online content development (the ability to draft news and events for websites and social media posts for social media platforms); website content management, with a good understanding of WordPress as a plus; social media management, with experience on LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Instagram as a plus; visual content development, having an eye for graphic design and knowledge of Canva will be considered an asset;
- an interest in urban mobility;
- an excellent command of written and spoken English; knowledge of additional European languages will be an asset;
- the legal right to work in Belgium (POLIS cannot provide visa sponsorship; candidates must already hold the necessary residence or work authorisation to work in Belgium).
What we offer
The internship provides a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience with a diverse range of communication activities in an international context.
We offer a full-time, six-month internship starting on 28 September 2026, with a monthly allowance of €1,095 (paid in accordance with the Belgian CIP scheme).
The internship is based in Brussels, Belgium. Candidates should be willing to relocate to Brussels if they are not already based there.
The role is primarily on-site, with a hybrid working arrangement allowing some work from home within Belgium during the week, according to internal guidelines. A limited period of remote working is also possible over the Christmas holidays.
