CEREMA: Temporary cycling lanes and lockdown: what are the opportunities?

Lockdown measures across Europe have limited travel to the bare minimum, with travel only reserved for access to essential services or for essential workers.

For as long as there is a risk of contamination of COVID-19, during and after confinement, use of public transport remains problematic due to the close personal distance, as well as the high probability of touching a surface contaminated by another passenger. These measures have led to a huge upheaval in traffic conditions: individual motor traffic and the use of public transport have decreased massively.

In response to this challenge, cities across the world have begun to set up temporary cycling facilities, to improve the sanitary conditions of movement of cyclists who have to move, in particular by increasing space between people.
