Madrid’s Public Transport Company is Undertaking the Largest Fleet Renovation of its History

This figure is not only a milestone in the history of the municipal company but is one of the largest figures at European level. As a result, at the end of 2020, the entire bus fleet will be either low- or zero-emission.

In the period 2016-2018, Madrid has acquired a total of 697 buses for an amount of 216.1 million euros. Of these nearly 700 vehicles, 590 are standard buses propelled by compressed Natural Gas (CNG), 54 are CNG articulated buses, 30 are standard hybrid buses, 15 are standard electric buses and 8 are electric minibuses.

In addition to this strong investment, Madrid’s public transport company is also intervening on the existing fleet with investments exceeding 3 million euros and is improving its operations centres to adapt the technical facilities to the new bus propulsion systems (clean natural gas, hybrids, electrical and induction).
