Zeeland Province

Zeeland is a province of the Netherlands with central position between the port cities of Rotterdam and Antwerp and between the North Sea. Zeeland is part of a global-important cross-boarder port, called North Sea Port (a collaboration between the ports of Vlissingen (NL), Terneuzen (NL) and Ghent (B)).

The region consists of a large rural area many small villages and several medium-sized cities, like Goes, Vlissingen, Terneuzen, Zierikzee and capital city Middelburg. Core tasks of the Province of Zeeland are spatial development, accessibility for everyone and mobility for the region, regional economic policy, policy on nature and rural areas, and culture and regional identity.

Zeeland has four primary ambitions to work on towards 2050:

  • Excellent living, working and life in Zeeland in a healthy and safe environment.
  • Balance in the large waters and rural areas.
  • A sustainable and innovative economy
  • A climate-resistant and CO2-neutral Zeeland.

The province seeks to create accessible, fast, smart, safe, sustainable and affordable mobility for all. This is a challenge in a region with a sparse population, however, Zeeland is ready to co-operate in smart and innovative solutions to deal with this dilemma.

Zeeland is involved in several EU projects including: Leader, Interreg Vlaanderen-Nederland, Interreg North Sea Region, JTF, Horizon, EFRO, TEN-T.
