NewCities webinar: The Big Rethink -- Cities After COVID-19

As the coronavirus pandemic brings urban life around the globe to a halt, NewCities is launching a new weekly online conversation series, The Big Rethink: Cities After COVID-19.

Given this unprecedented pause in the urban metabolism, we hope to take stock of cities’ strengths and shortcomings, identify possibilities for systemic change, and seize opportunity for permanent changes in policy, planning, and norms that will redefine urban life moving forward.

These live virtual discussions will not only share lessons from current recovery efforts but also address the future of urban wellbeing, housing, mobility, and more.

This session will focus on:
- How planning and architecture have responded to previous major outbreaks of disease
- Whether COVID-19 should make us rethink density as a guiding principle for smart growth
- How to design spaces which bolster community during periods of physical distancing
