Streets Blog USA: During COVID-19, Lime and Bird Pull Back, Spin Steps Up

Micro-mobility solutions have rapidly expanded in recent times, with e-scooters becoming an increasingly frequent sight on city streets. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused major changes for urban transport, and micro-mobility is no exception.

Many micro-mobility companies - including major players such as Lime and Bird - are massively reducing their fleet of scooters in response to the heightened public health risk. Lime has stopped operations in several European countries as well as in some American states in an effort to reduce the spread of the virus via scooters.

However, some companies are retaining their fleets in cities, sighting a need to keep people connected in a time of reduced public transport availability. Some companies, such as Spin, have issued guidance on how to disinfect e-scooters before using them.
