Flemish Government creates fund for local walking and cycling improvements
The Flemish Government has launched a fund to support municipalities in making local improvements for walking and cycling.
The Government has introduced this fund in response to the COVID-19 outbreak to support Flemish cities and municipalities in taking measures that stimulate sustainable mobility.
Municipalities can apply for a subsidy for 50% of the costs for road markings, traffic signs, road furniture and installation costs. These mobility measures can be implemented through contractors or through a contract from the Roads and Traffic Agency (if it concerns painting).
Municipalities can apply for a subsidy for 50% (up to 7,000 Euros) of the costs for road markings, road signs, road furniture and installation costs for:
- Broadening of crossings, bicycle parking lanes, pedestrian and bicycle paths
- Ensuring safer cycling routes and school environments for children
- Temporary bicycle parking facilities in existing car parking spaces
