Velo-city 2024: Ghent set to host world's largest cycling conference

Velo-city, the renowned conference dedicated to cycling and active mobility, is gearing up for its 2024 edition, set to take place in POLIS member Ghent’s vibrant city. Organised by the European Cyclists' Federation, this flagship event gathers leading advocates, policymakers, researchers, and industry experts from around the globe to shape the future of cycling and sustainable urban development.

Scheduled from 18 to 21 June 2024, Velo-city 2024 promises to be a key moment for the global cycling community. With the theme "Connecting Through Cycling," the conference aims to emphasize the integral role of bicycles in fostering connectivity, both physical and social.

Ghent, known for its commitment to cycling as a sustainable mode of transport, serves as the perfect host for Velo-city 2024. Since the implementation of its circulation plan in 2017, the city has witnessed a surge in cycling, surpassing targets for 2030. Ghent has successfully addressed urban challenges while promoting a bright cycling culture by prioritising cycling infrastructure and initiatives such as school streets and bicycle parking policies.

In addition to hosting Velo-city 2024, Ghent's Cycling Embassy, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting cycling culture, continues to lead initiatives to inspire other cities to prioritise cycling infrastructure and services.
