Lille launches new parking strategy

The Lille parking strategy has as an objective to manage car use and reconquer public space. Parking is a complex problem because some parking issues are managed at the city-regional level (road management, urban planning, car parks) and others are management at the municipal level (regulation, tarrifs, enforcement). The objective of the charter is to better coordinate the efforts, and also to define the conditions for city-regional investment in the establishment of car parks.

The charter was prepared in an intense process of several meeting groups, where technicians and politicians met.  The implementation of the charter will be monitored by a parking observatory. The Lille metropolitan region includes 87 municipalities that needed to be consulted to conclude the charter.
