The NOVA Cidade – Urban Analytics Lab is a network of people and organisations, promoted by NOVA IMS, representing the protagonists of the construction of smart cities and territories, which collaboratively develops a set of activities that aim to promote the creation and transfer of knowledge applied in the context of urban intelligence aiming to actively contribute to the construction of smart and sustainable cities and territories.

Based on information management and data science and involving local government, academia and industry, we aim to actively contribute to the fulfillment of SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities of the United Nations, in particular to ensure that those who live, work or visit cities sustainability, inclusion, resilience and security in the multiple dimensions of urban intelligence , with emphasis on responding to the climate emergency, promoting decarbonisation and the energy transition in a move to the circular economy.

Within this network, the NOVA Cidade intends to make its contribution to the development of a more responsible and solidary society, basing its academic and scientific ambitions on strategic partnerships with scientific and professional communities. In this sense, and in a continuous and sustainable way, NOVA Cidade creates partnerships for development, promoting synergies with national and international partnerships in several areas.

At the same time, cities are today spaces for the concentration of people and the creation of wealth and innovation, with their governance to ensure the planning and management of infrastructures and services ensuring the quality of life for those who live, work or visit them. NOVA Cidade builds the smart and sustainable cities of the future based on the conviction that urban analytics produces knowledge capable of promoting a paradigm shift in the planning and management of urban spaces.

NOVA Cidade – Urban Analytics Lab aims to support the different agents present in the territory to promote and implement urban intelligence and analytics in the following areas:

  • Governance - Embrace the challenge of smart cities as a model capable of creating a favourable environment for more effective and efficient governance by public entities, based on concrete and current information.
