Results of project on open ITS systems presented at conference

The most important output of the project, the POSSE guide to the development and implementation of open specifications and standards (OSS) for urban ITS, was presented and made available to delegates in glossy printed form. This guide builds on the experiences of the two main national frameworks for urban ITS interoperability, UTMC in the United Kingdom and OCIT/OTS in the German-speaking part of Europe. Whilst both initiatives shared common goals, namely, to overcome vendor lock-in and to reduce costs of systems procurement, the approach and current framework are quite different. Nonetheless, the project managed to extract key elements from both frameworks, which have been fed into guidelines on how to go about developing OSS. The guidelines are essentially based on a phased approach.
