Get ready for the CIVITAS Forum 2015 in historic Slovenia!
The flourishing European city was chosen as this year's host for the forum after eight years of participating vigorously in CIVITAS-led initiatives, such as pedestrianising the city streets and making them more amenable for cycling and walking. Strengthened by the Kavalir E-vehicle initiative and new dedicated bus lanes, the pedestrian downtown area stands as a model for other cities that has returned public spaces to citizens, contributing to earning Ljubljana the title of European Green Capital 2016.
This year's theme will revolve around 'Sharing the city', i.e. reconciling people places and traffic to achieve a higher standard of living and a more sustainable model of public transport in urban areas. Ljubljana's mayor, Zoran Janković, will open this year's forum, along with the participation of the European Commissioner for transport, Violeta Bulc and the VP for Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič. Many exciting topics are on the agenda of this year's conference, including the latest developments in electric mobility, bike sharing, multimodality and travel planning, effective mobility management and ICT solutions for a more accessible city.
Success stories, valuable lessons, and best practices will also be revealed in many of the forum's sessions, while several networking opportunities and social events will provide ample opportunity to get to know colleagues in the field. Site visits will include touring pedestrianised Ljubljana by foot, cycling through architectural attractions, understanding the city's successes in public transport and learning about the revival of the city's Roman past. This year's CIVITAS forum promises to be a very special one in the heart of Europe, and registration has already begun!
