Commissioner Bulc presented the 2015 Road Safety Awards

The winners were selected from some 2200 signatories of the Road Safety Charter following an evaluation made by the European Commission. The European Road Safety Charter, led by the European Commission, was initiated in 2004 in the framework of the Road Safety Action Programme. In her speech at the award ceremony in Brussels, EU Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, recognised the need to go beyond targets to reduce road deaths: "There is also an on-going process to analyse the serious road traffic injuries, in addition to the analysis of road deaths."

The awarded organisations are:

  • Attikes Diadromes, the Operator of "Attiki Odos" for its road safety education project targeting adolescents,
  • Automovel Club de Portugal for its road safety educational programme for children in schools
  • The Cycle-Smart Foundation for its safer cycling education,
  • PKP Polish Railway Lines Company for its campaign "Stop and Live!" to reduce accidents at level crossings and in railway areas,
  • the company Sanofi for their internal road safety policy towards their employees' safe driving
