Commission proposes upgrade for 300 key Seaports
The package the EC proposes includes more tranparent and open procedures to designate providers of port services, a port users' advisory committee and a reduction of administrative formalities.
The Connecting Europe Facilities will have a new focus on port projects in the TEN-T corridor plans. The EC proposal extends the freedom of ports to levy infrastructure charges. From the 1200 European sea ports, the EC has identified 319 as key ports, as laid down in the TEN-T proposals: 83 are part of the core network, 236 of the comprehensive network.
