Brussels Region presents PT investment plans

Most of the money will be be invested in underground infrastructure and rolling stock. Automation of two major underground lines is foreseen by 2019. This should increase the capacity per line from 16.800 passengers per hour to 28.000 passengers per hour. A new metro line will be built and is expected to be finalised in 2021.

The management contract also foresees the replacement of bus lines by tram systems. The fleet of the MIVB-STIB will become greener. This summer, a final diesel bus call for tender will be launched, and after that only clean technologies will be purchased. The goal of all these measures is to increase the attractiveness of PT in Brussels, and to facilitate a rise in the number of passengers from 350 million in 2012 to 550 million in 2025.
