ITS Directive evaluation workshop

The ITS Directive establishes a framework to enable the coordinated and coherent deployment and use of Intelligent Transport Systems within the European Union.

The purpose of the evaluation currently under way is to assess to which extent the ITS directive has contributed to the faster and more coordinated deployment of ITS, as well as the better functioning of the road transport system and its interfaces with other modes. The evaluation will provide an up-to-date overview of the implementation the Directive and of the benefits and costs created. It will also assess if the current scope is still relevant and in line with technological developments and other EU policies.

Based on the evaluation, it will be determined if improvements to the Directive are necessary. In case of recommendations for revision, the evaluation would then provide the basis for an impact assessment for a revision of the Directive.
